Prosthetic Tooth

Dentures are artificial teeth used to replace missing teeth. Tooth loss can occur due to dental diseases, gum problems, or accidents. Dentures help restore chewing ability, speech function, and facial aesthetics.

Types of Dentures

1. Fixed Dentures

  • Single Crown: Covers a single damaged tooth.
  • Bridge: Replaces missing teeth by anchoring onto adjacent teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: Attached to titanium screws placed in the jawbone for a more permanent solution.

2. Removable Dentures

  • Complete Dentures: Designed for individuals with no remaining teeth.
  • Partial Dentures: Used when some natural teeth are still present.
  • Precision-Attached Dentures: Metal-supported dentures that offer better stability and comfort.

3. Types of Crowns Used in Dentures

  • Metal-Supported Porcelain: Durable and suitable for chewing pressure.
  • Zirconium-Supported: Provides a natural look with no risk of allergic reactions.
  • Full Porcelain: Completely metal-free and highly aesthetic.

Dentures Application Process

  1. Initial Examination & Planning – The dentist evaluates the patient’s needs and plans the treatment.
  2. Preparation & Measurement – Teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and sent to the lab.
  3. Fitting & Adjustments – The dentures are placed, and final adjustments are made for comfort.

Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Rinse dentures after meals and brush them regularly.
  • Keep dentures in a moist environment overnight.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene to prevent infections.

Things to Consider

  • Initial discomfort is normal; patience is required for adaptation.
  • Stick to soft foods initially and chew evenly.
  • If the denture cracks or breaks, consult a dentist immediately.

Dentures restore lost function and enhance aesthetic appearance. With proper care, they can be long-lasting and provide a natural-looking smile.
